Either way, I had a theme. I had a character loosely based on something I didn’t have to come up with myself. Really all that came down to was I forced myself to do something different and use all energy weapons throughout the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Until I got to a DLC which forced me to use something else which I didn’t put points into, boy that was rough. Fuck Alaska specifically. And me I guess for deciding I had to play through the whole campaign and the DLC before I would allow myself to stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But this is about New Vegas, for which I needed a new character and therefore a new theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Train of thoughts was simply “Vegas… gambling.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Looked up the father of gambling, again I clearly didn’t pick the top result but I did find a man named Terrance Watanabe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But that’s boring to just copy someone again. So instead what if he had a daughter, the daughter of gambling. Terry Watanabe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And so, with my stats looking like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n I began my journey through the Vegas wasteland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I maxed out speech and bartering as quickly as possible and that *definitely* hasn’t left me lacking in any other areas, no sir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I only ever briefly played this before, I think I touched on that in a previous post when I started up with 3. I had a friend who was really into it and we started recording a series as I played, not that I think any of those videos ever came out. Which is a damn shame, it wasn’t purposeful but I think I lost those files before they got uploaded. I remember laughing a good bit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Then I finally made it to the strip, things took a turn. Including finally being good at something in the game, blackjack is real easy when you have max luck. Shame they cap the amount you can win from all the casinos. But it’s still I think a good 50k I’ve gotten so far. I can buy or talk my way out of most things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now I’m getting why people like this. My plan is absolutely to try and put myself in charge by the end, I don’t know if that’s possible (I’m obviously trying to not look anything up) but it seems like one of the options instead of any of these other people or factions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I did a few of said faction’s questlines easily enough, I did get stuck with one where I really needed more sneak. I had just hit level 15 though and I remember finding the entrance to a DLC that recommended level 15…<\/p>\n\n\n\n Old World Blues, never again. By the time I realized I was in over my head, I was in too far to willingly go back and load a save before I entered. Level 15 at a minimum is a joke, maybe if you’re maxed on combat stats? But I wasn’t, so I struggled HARD through the entire thing. Which was way too much fighting, with guns I wasn’t good at. I think I picked up a total of 3 stimpacks the entire time and drank more soda in those 10 hours than I have in all the rest of the fallout games combined. Maybe not verbatim… Maybe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n But, as to not dwell on the worst, I eventually got out and went back to where I left off with the Ultra Luxe questline. Finished that up now that I could sneak some weapons on me to deal with the (now very angry and attacking on sight) guards in their well dressed outfits. And that’s about where I’m at, really trying to finally get a companion since I almost entirely missed out on that throughout Fallout 3. But I only know of one or two, from said sister and another friend who mentioned one to go find. Although, I got as far as I could trying to recruit Boone until I hit a wall in the shape of a locked safe. Pretty sure there are answers in there and I still only have 15 points in lockpicking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n So I turned my attention elsewhere to go get a level up, and now I’m repairing solar panels at an air force base. Wonder what I’ll be doing next?<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Overall, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed about a third of this game so far, somewhat enjoyed another third and fully almost quit the whole thing and deleted it never to be touched again during a final third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 10\/10.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" After completing The Witcher 3, the next game to enter my main focus was a return to Fallout, with New Vegas. I’m currently around 30 hours in, and I have a few thoughts so far. The first 10 hours or so were just a fallout game, nothing wrong with that, but all I’ve ever heard for the past decade and a half was how this game was the best in the series and Obsidian knocked it out the park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Story was fun, but holy shit it’s nonstop combat. And it never got any easier even as I leveled 8 times over the course of the DLC. It felt exactly like being back in Alaska. The fun stopped and by the end I was skipping most everything to just get out of there, texting my sister all caps messages of hate as she goes “tee hee it was easy for me so good best DLC”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
