Video games and more

Who starts a blog in 2025?

Me, I guess.

You see way back in probably 2012 or so, I started a blog with the handle I had been using for a good 10+ years.

I’m glad I saved that image because there is apparently zero history of that website anywhere. I’ve searched but it just doesn’t exist. Turns out not *everything* stays on the internet forever.

Here’s what I remember about that site, I used those graphics from a website called Bannedstory, an image creator that allowed people to use the sprites from Maplestory. Finally I could make my in game character as cool as I wanted without spending thousands of hours grinding.

I spent thousands of hours grinding anyway, but I never looked cool.

I’m also pretty sure I used this as the profile image

Oh yeah, Full Metal Alchemist was my jam. And I used it everywhere.

Taking pictures of my screen like it’s 2009 which, in at least one of those photos, it was.

Anyway, the old blog served only one purpose I can remember. I was playing the mobile game DragonVale and was struggling to unlock some new dragon, Kairos. The internet was, for the first time I can remember, completely void of any information on how to unlock this legendary dragon.

So I muddled my way through, gathering pieces. I remember literally nothing about the process but I was evidently forward-thinking enough to capture a few screenshots.

And then…

TA-DA!

I’m glad I saved all these images.

Anyway, I wrote up the process and put it on my blog. Actually got a few thousand hits, I assume from people looking for the same information I was.

And that’s the story of what launched into a successful internet career that I’ve been profiting from ever since.

Yeah okay, what actually happened is that I moved on and never posted anything else to that blog. No idea what happened to it or honestly what free site I was hosting it through. Maybe blogspot? It’s long gone.

A few years later I’d start up another website with a new handle after coming up empty with creative or fun name ideas. Spent a few hours and landed on:

Qwoft

Because nobody else had claimed it, literally zero internet results. Because the results forcible try to assume you mean QWOP? Or maybe because it’s just not proper grammar to put a W after a Q.

Who’s to say, but I did it. Then I started making videos, about one of my oldest hobbies: Video games.

The next 10 years go like this:

  • Scripted Youtube Series about Video Games (Until I ran out of steam)
  • Let’s Play videos from 5 different games (Until I ran out of steam)
  • Let’s Play video series where I just record me laughing at South Park: Fractured But Whole
  • Give up on video game recording
  • Get into wildlife photography
  • Pivot blog to be about that
  • Start over with Youtube videos on the same channel
  • Split channel so gaming is separate
  • Daily gaming videos playing games I either am nostalgic for, or missed entirely
  • Split websites

And here we are in 2025. Picking up right where we left off with me downloading DragonVale!

Not really, but I do think I’ll have video game related things to talk about. So maybe I’ll do that here. Or I’ll share whatever. Like it’s social media except I’ll actually like it and want to use it.
