The next morning in Florida, we planned a beach photo shoot for one of my siblings cosplay. Ventus from Kingdom Hearts.
Sunrise at the beach, Canon 5D Mark II with the wide angle. I also brought my flash. I had done enough research to know I needed the flash to be off camera for some better control. So for a cheap option I picked up a 15 foot flash sync cable before we went on vacation.
First shot I tried to line up with the moon in the background, as it was still setting. Didn’t really come out though, and not the point of the photoshoot so we moved on.
We tried some different poses, different angles. My other younger sibling was there holding the previously mentioned off camera flash. Which would only screw in to the camera body and would fall out of the flash. (Just get a wireless system like I would soon do)
Gotta keep it fun and be goofy
If we had more time and unlimited resources, I would have lit the star a bit better. But doing it in post just kept looking unnatural.
Although it had nothing to do with the shoot. As we were changing positions I couldn’t help but take advantage of the rising sun. This was my personal favorite shot of that day. Just has a really cool look to it.
Then we started to take advantage of the scenery. Like this cool downed palm tree with an old fish… catching basket? Lobster trap?
Gotta keep it fun. Here’s the assist flash holder for the day.
Then we had a costume change, and a character change. From Ventus to Roxas. Which after playing all the Kingdom Hearts games I’m still not convinced aren’t the same person. But who knows with that plot. I get overwhelmed thinking about it.
And that was how we spent the morning. I’m quite happy with how this photoshoot came out, especially as it was more or less planned as “we’ll go to the beach and figure something out.”
And then we stopped for breakfast at McDonald’s on the way back where my vegetarian sister ordered some mcgriddle without the bacon and instead they put extra bacon and no egg. So after giving the bacon to her husband she was left with a cheese pancake. And we giggled about cheese pancake for the rest of the day.
