Florida Vacation Part 6 - 7/18/19

Nearing the end of the Florida vacation. The last day for some family members who were heading back early, but still 2 days out for us. We planned a nice mid-morning trip out. But first, the moon from the night before.

And after we wrapped up the cosplay shoot, there was a bit of wildlife for me to take pictures of. This may have been the same Great Blue Heron from the previous day, it was the same beach after all.

And now on to the mid-morning trip of the 18th. We went to a state park and saw an incredibly old light house that was turned into a museum and gift shop. Very cool to learn the history and see all the stuff they had. I didn’t take too many pictures because I couldn’t see anything about if it was allowed or not inside. Plus if I documented the entire museum it kind of defeats the purpose for anyone else to go.

I did get a picture of the outside.

Although I didn’t own a macro lens at the time. This awesome miniature ship model intrigued me enough to take a picture of it, and then again from a closer up showing some of the details I found interesting.

And then there was another light that we found out is still in service today. I took some pictures as we were driving past in the car.

From there it was off for lunch and back to the house for most of the day. Until we went out that night for sunset at the beach.

What the above images don’t tell about the story is how eaten alive we were by bugs. I did my best to hold the camera steady when taking the pictures, especially because I was shooting at such a slow shutter speed to let as much light in on the sensor. There obviously wasn’t much light left this day.

It really kicked in back in the car when I started itching so badly I thought I would need to go to the emergency room, it was painful. But worth it. I obviously survived and learned to make sure bug spray gets applied before and beach sunsets.

And that brings the vacation to a close. Although as I mentioned we had one more day, that day was spent laying around the house relaxing and enjoying what we had left. The swimming pool, eating anything left in the fridge to try and clean it out from the leftovers through the week. It was a good time, and a great vacation. If only it didn’t have to end after just one week.

Florida Vacation Part 5 - 7/18/19

The next morning in Florida, we planned a beach photo shoot for one of my siblings cosplay. Ventus from Kingdom Hearts.

Sunrise at the beach, Canon 5D Mark II with the wide angle. I also brought my flash. I had done enough research to know I needed the flash to be off camera for some better control. So for a cheap option I picked up a 15 foot flash sync cable before we went on vacation.

First shot I tried to line up with the moon in the background, as it was still setting. Didn’t really come out though, and not the point of the photoshoot so we moved on.

We tried some different poses, different angles. My other younger sibling was there holding the previously mentioned off camera flash. Which would only screw in to the camera body and would fall out of the flash. (Just get a wireless system like I would soon do)

If we had more time and unlimited resources, I would have lit the star a bit better. But doing it in post just kept looking unnatural.

Although it had nothing to do with the shoot. As we were changing positions I couldn’t help but take advantage of the rising sun. This was my personal favorite shot of that day. Just has a really cool look to it.

Canon 5D Mark II w/28-135mm @50 - 1/100 Sec - F13 - ISO 100

Then we started to take advantage of the scenery. Like this cool downed palm tree with an old fish… catching basket? Lobster trap?

Canon 5D Mark II w/28-135mm @30 - 1/200 Sec - F9 - ISO 100

Then we had a costume change, and a character change. From Ventus to Roxas. Which after playing all the Kingdom Hearts games I’m still not convinced aren’t the same person. But who knows with that plot. I get overwhelmed thinking about it.

Canon 5D Mark II w/28-135mm @80 - 1/200 Sec - F9 - ISO 100

Canon 5D Mark II w/28-135mm @28 - 1/500 Sec - F9 - ISO 400

And that was how we spent the morning. I’m quite happy with how this photoshoot came out, especially as it was more or less planned as “we’ll go to the beach and figure something out.”

And then we stopped for breakfast at McDonald’s on the way back where my vegetarian sister ordered some mcgriddle without the bacon and instead they put extra bacon and no egg. So after giving the bacon to her husband she was left with a cheese pancake. And we giggled about cheese pancake for the rest of the day.

Florida Vacation Part 4 - 7/17/19

The following day in Florida we went to an Aquarium. There I took a lot of pictures that I’ll share below. This post will mostly be a gallery. I’ll have all the talky bits up here at the front.

For the day I took just the 5D Mark II and switched between the Yongnuo 50MM 1.8 and my Canon 28-135. As Aquariums are not exactly light filled placed. And I wouldn’t dare use a flash. So the bigger aperture the better. Any pictures inside and dark are on the 50mm prime. I also used a CPL filter on the 50mm, because that was the only filter sizes I owned at that time.
